POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working under general supervision, the primary role for this position is to coordinate a research study with the purpose of conducting a randomized control trial of a psychoeducational intervention designed to improve the self-efficacy of family caregivers to persons living with dementia who perform complex care tasks. In addition, they will be asked to contribute to refinement of materials on supporting financial wellbeing of family caregivers, coordination of a monthly advisory council of caregivers, and as ad-hoc research duties to support the Family Caregiving Translational Science Lab. The Research Assistant will primarily coordinate recruitment efforts, schedule meetings, administer study surveys, and conduct other related search activities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Plan and carry out project in accordance with general plans. Enroll and consent participants into the research study. Responsible for enrolling interested caregivers, such as by telling them more about the study and checking eligibility. If eligible, complete consent procedures. (20%)
  2. Conduct a series of experiments to supply scientific information as part of a larger project. Administer participant surveys over Zoom. Responsible for administering Zoom-based surveys to participants; surveys are anticipated to last for up to 1.5 hours. (30%)
  3. Coordinate research activities for the study. Coordinate with community sites and partners to promote recruitment. Coordinate with recruitment partners to promote awareness of research with providers from national sites, as well as other recruitment venues. (10%)
  4. Monitor and supervise monitoring of intervention fidelity. Manage monitoring of intervention fidelity by completing a fidelity form following completion of selected intervention sessions. May assist in developing improved techniques, projection methods or procedures such as intervention fidelity, involving a high degree of skill and training. Evaluate adequacy of techniques; study and test new procedures and analyze data. (15%)
  5. Refine materials related to financial education for family caregivers to persons living with dementia, such as flyers, short articles, and web materials. (10%)
  6. Train new staff; direct the work of student research assistants. Occasionally monitor and assist student research assistants, such as providing guidance and reminders on study procedures. (10%)

     

NONESSENTIAL FUNCITONS

  1. Coordinate a monthly caregiver advisory council of family caregivers, including administering payments, setting up meetings, and reaching out to new potential members. (4%)
  2. Oversee inventory of reference materials for caregivers. (1%)
  3. Perform other duties as assigned. (<1%)

     

CONTACTS

Department: Frequent contact with the Principal Investigator (PI) Project Manager to discuss research and maintain workflow. At least weekly contact with principal investigator as a part of regular team meetings. Weekly to monthly contact with relevant study departments, such as finance and research offices

University: Occasional contact with other departments, such as the institutional review office.

External: Continuous contact with study participants for enrollment and survey administration. Weekly contact with study partners, such as community recruitment sites. Monthly contact with non-Case Western investigators.

Students: Continuous contact with students involved in the research study.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This individual may be required to monitor student research assistants and demonstrate how to perform study tasks.

 

QUALIFICAITONS

Experience: 1 to 3 years of related experience required.

Education: Bachelor of Science degree required.
