JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Customer Service

• Complies with the section telephone courtesy policies and procedures

• Attends to customers' needs, answering questions, displaying professionalism and helping customers understand Laboratory testing and its requirements.

-Demonstrates cooperation when working with both internal and external customers.

• Demonstrates calmness under varying environmental circumstances. Remains willing and capable of assisting in crisis situations.

Instrumentation/Equipment

• Operates instrumentation/equipment according to specific protocols.

-Is able to operate institutional telephone system to receive or transmit a large volume of inquiries.

-Is able to manage institutional computer system to navigate Laboratory and Hospital Informatics Systems.

-Is able to perform and document standard service, including critical value notification within 60 minutes in the Laboratory Informatics System.

• Can troubleshoot and resolve common instrumentation/workflow problems.

Training

• Train employees in Call Center procedure as needed.

• Follow established checklists during the training period.

• Apply MD Anderson Cores values and institutional high reliability principles when interacting with call center customers.

-Follow telephone etiquette by answering call within three rings, listening to customers and communicating effectively with health care providers and other customers.

-Follow established checklist to timely perform annual assessment.

Other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent. Three years of experience in a clinical medical laboratory or similar setting. With preferred degree, no experience required.
