Job Objectives:

Assist with coordination and assurance of the provision and quality of direct nutrition and breast-feeding promotion services to WIC participants as outlined by federal, state and local departmental guidelines and provide nutrition education and counseling for other Health Department program participants.

Essential Job Functions:

Assist WIC program participants for program eligibility including anthropometrics and blood work according to the Kansas WIC Policy and Procedures Manuel. Provide nutrition counseling and intervention at WIC certification and to high-risk participants and complete flow sheet and care plans for clients. Monitor flow sheet and care plans periodically. Promote and support breast feeding for pregnant and delivered women. Implement nutrition care plans for pregnant and nursing mothers, infants and children as developed. Assist in collaboration with intra-agency and interagency teams for coordinating, planning, implementation and evaluation of nutritional components of their programs. Prepare or approve nutrition education classes and lesson plans and nutrition education materials and nutrition education aids for scientific accuracy and appropriateness for each WIC participant category and risk factor. Assist the Nutrition Services Coordinator with periodically monitoring chards to assure that appropriate nutrition services are being provided and that high-risk clients have been referred appropriately to the R.D. Assist the Nutrition Services Coordinator in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Nutrition Services Plan including all sub-agencies under the parent agency. Assist Assistant Director and/or Quality Improvement Chair with ongoing improvement initiatives as needed.

Operate all job-related machinery, equipment, tools and other aids a required, necessary, or needed in the performance of these job functions.

Work Environment:

Indoor duties are performed in a climate-controlled environment. May be exposed to inclement weather due to outdoor duties when occasionally making home visits to clients. Surroundings are frequently noisy due to children and clients. Universal precautions must be taken when performing laboratory procedures such as a finger stick for hemoglobin determination. Home environments may lack proper heat or cooling equipment, or equipment may not be in use. In home assignments may require exposure to a smoking environment. On occasion may be exposed to spills of blood or body fluids.
