We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for an Industrial Engineering Intern within our US Spring division to help support our bedding business. Did you know we have been revolutionizing the sleep industry since 1883? That’s right! In fact, we hold the original patent on a spiral steel coil bed spring, filed way back in 1885. As an Industrial Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to provide support and direction for the manufacturing processes with US Spring. You will also make suggestions for improvement and verify the implementation of solutions.

Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by developing production standards, improving process flow, and optimizing the manufacturing process. The team you will be working with is experienced, supportive, and collaborative. Working with this team will be an excellent learning experience.

So, what will you be doing as an Industrial Engineering Intern?

  • Conduct time studies and work measurement.

  • Support the standardization of rates and standard cost across multiple manufacturing sites.

  • Investigate ways to improve safety and ergonomics of operations.

  • Strive for continuous process improvement in all areas of responsibility.

  • Create and maintain layout drawings for production areas and facilities using Visio or other drawing program.

  • Assess operations to identify and implement workflow improvements.

  • Analyze manufacturing costs and identify opportunities to improve.

  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles to eliminate waste from operations.

  • Calculate Return on Investment (ROI) for various improvement projects within the group.

  • Coordinate with Engineering, Maintenance, Risk Management, and Quality Assurance teams on the commissioning of new equipment.

  • Develop a working knowledge of US Spring manufacturing equipment used within Branches.

  • Support fixed asset management across the group.

    To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in: Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Management, or Operations Management

  • Proficient Computer skills & Microsoft Office, Excel and Power Point

  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong mathematics and statistics skills
