Job Summary

Pipe Layers are responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches are dug out for pipes. Also aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement or glue. Pipe Layers will work with the pipe crew setting RCP and RCB pipe for pipe extensions and full pipe crossings. Understand how to lead the installation of storm drainage reinforced concrete pipe, reinforced concrete box culverts, precast reinforced manholes, and precast reinforced concrete inlets. Understand the roles and responsibilities of each pipe crew member to execute installs accurately and in a safe manner. Utilize heavy equipment to install storm drainage materials correctly.

Essential Functions

• May operate hand and or power tools

• Follow all required safety rules, policies, and guidelines

• Set up the laser with grades and verify all percentage slopes on drawings

• Make necessary corrections with field supervision

• Configure pipe routes

• Align pipes in pipeline sections

• Dig trenches with trenching tools

• Insert the pipe into trenches

• Insert spaces in between pipes

• Pull out defective or misaligned pipes

• Inspect places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specifications

• Lay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains

• Grade trenches or culverts

• Seal joints

• Ensure pipes are fitted and aligned using grade rods or transit levels

• Cover pipes with dirt or other material

• Drill holes into pipes for auxiliary lines

• Work with concrete pipes

  Required Skills & Experience

• At least 3-5 years experience as a Pipe Layer for concrete storm drainage installations

• Physical ability to perform assigned tasks

• Able to lift 50 pounds to assist in pipe operations

• Basic knowledge of operating hand and power tools of various types

• Knowledge of working with concrete pipes

• Previous experience setting up to 42" RCP

• Previous experience with safety end treatments

• Flexibility to work days & nights as needed

• Work in the DFW area Monday through Saturday from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm

• Able to take direction from the Crew Foreman and Leadman

• Able to follow company safety policies

• Able to operate pipe laser to understand flowline elevations and drainage percentages

• Understand how to backfill underground drainage materials

• Understand OSHA trench and excavation rules

• Able to and understand how to properly rig for the lifting of drainage materials
