Job Summary

Performs any plumbing-related mechanical work, including installations, alterations, repairs and general maintenance using journeyworker level plumbing skills and knowledge. Maintains water, sewer and gas lines including primary and secondary systems and related equipment. A candidate who is customer service-oriented, with a strong emphasis on building and nurturing client relationships.

Responsibilities

  1. Services, repairs and maintains all types of control valves by removing, disassembling, inspecting and replacing worn/broken parts, if necessary, and reassembling and reinstalling.

  2. Performs preventive maintenance on restrooms, water softeners, RO-DI pure water systems, swimming pools, pump stations, annual surveys (cathodic-gas leak) and related piping systems.

  3. Identifies and resolves plumbing problems by repairing or replacing pipes, fittings, valves, plugged drains, faucets, toilet repairs, etc.

  4. Determines proper materials for the particular assignment at hand so that equipment and materials are matched properly for the application.

  5. Remodels old plumbing systems preparing a bill of materials needed, and then constructing the new systems according to plan by using appropriate equipment.

  6. Installs rough in and finish work for new construction by installing main sewers, manholes, storm drains, acid waste, compressed air, vacuum, natural gas, fire hydrants and water distribution trunk lines and later hooking up individual components such as sinks, drains, taps, and related equipment.

  7. Installs, repairs and tests RP back flow preventers and vacuum breakers on equipment and double checks valves on all potable water connections as required by the IPC code and Utah rules and regulations.

  8. Performs assigned preventive maintenance checks on valves, pumps, water heaters, dilution tanks, and other operating equipment.

  9. May install, maintain and repair medical gas systems such as oxygen, breathing air, patient vacuum, waste anesthetic vacuum, etc.

  10. May be responsible for the performance and training of a plumber apprentice.

  11. May be required to be on a weekly on-call schedule 24-7 on a weekly rotation to perform emergency repairs at odd hours and during weekends as needed.

  12. The ideal candidate should possess proficiency in threading and grooving various types of pipes.

  13. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in installing water heaters, boilers, and radiant heat systems efficiently and effectively, ensuring compliance with local building codes.

  14. Knowledge of mechanical pump, motor, and bearing systems would be preferred.

  15. The ideal candidate prioritizes safety and thrives in a collaborative team setting

  16. Candidates with experience operating a drain cleaning machine are highly desirable for this position.

  17. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Journeyworker licensure and Back Flow Tester certification by the University and involved state agency or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; and demonstrated human relation and effective communications skills. Licensed Water Purveyor skills are preferred.
